Stack vs Single Sized Humbuckers / Opinions on Strat's Switch/Split Pups Installation

Re: Stack vs Single Sized Humbuckers / Opinions on Strat's Switch/Split Pups Installa

if you play live having too many options can be a pain... switches, push-pulls, amp channels, knob tweaking, pickup selecting...

now if only we had the technology to grow more hands...

I totally agree with you Alex, but as ArtieToo said... is my first custom guitar, I want to try all possibilities! Probably I'll never use some things and on my next custom guitar or even on that one I should take off anything I won't use!

I want to experiment and decide what work for me!
Thanks for your attention and opinion! All welcome!

No no, dont give up mate. You just need a nice pair of thin metal tweezers to hold/adjust the wire-ends, the 6 points on push/pull's in my experience are very small.

I won't give up then!!!
Thanks DazH!
So, now I just need the diagram so I can "try" it!

Best Regards

Re: Stack vs Single Sized Humbuckers / Opinions on Strat's Switch/Split Pups Installa

I'm thinking of what our friend DazH said:
"if it's your 1st time, be patient with the series/parallel switch. My god it's a fiddly and precise job. Not to scare you, just make sure you have a good pair of tweezers, your fingers will be too big for the job."

Do you really think this probably would be an IMPOSSIBLE thing for a human being? Do you thin I must give up switching series/parallel?
Gus

No, I found it fairly easy, just need patience. Your fingers will be a little awkward to work with a on those push/pulls, and they probably will get a little burned (nothing hospital inducing or that a little saliva can't cure) but it can be done. I've wired a few push/pulls, didn't even install them, just did it for practise. Tweasers and/or small pliers are a great help, and if you have them, use them. Also a wet sponge for cleaning your tips.

One big piece advice for soldering I can give is find a big block magnet, and set your soldering iron on it. You want it to be high enough off the table to get under the tip for solders (a block of wood under the magnet can help) and the magnet is used to keep the soldering iron from moving. This way you have a third hand, which for wiring tiny things, is a great asset. If i get some time I might do a little "How to solder" and post it on my photobucket.

Anyway, I'll start working on the diagrams Saturday and tell you by Monday if i could come up with anything. I know that's a big wait, but it's the best I can do.

Re: Stack vs Single Sized Humbuckers / Opinions on Strat's Switch/Split Pups Installa

I hate seeing me do two posts in a row. But this is soprt of separate from the last one.

Just to be clear, the wiring diagram I'm drawing up is this, right?:

------------------------------------------------------------

MASTER VOLUME:
pot-Controls MASTER VOLUME
push-SWITCH BRIDGE'S SERIES/PARALEL

MASTER TONE:
pot-Controls MASTER TONE
push-SWITCH NECK & MIDDLE'S HUMBUCKER/SINGLE

BRIDGE'S BLEND VOLUME:
pot-Controls BRIDGE'S BLEND VOLUME (when is not selected)
push-SWITCH BRIDGE'S HUMBUCKER/SINGLE

------------------------------------------------------------

If not, let me know ASAP

I think I can try it... I have a friend who works with eletronics then I think he can help me out too!
Thanks for the tip! Precious!

Man, you have NO IDEA how grateful I am for this! Even if will take 2 weeks I'll be waiting! Patiently! I swear!

As I said before, you guys are great, ready to help a Brazilian stranger! I must say that I'm disappointed with Brazilian's forum, nobody wants to help a Layman First Travel!
You guys will save my life! What can I say? Thank you so much!
Maybe someday I'll be able to return the favor!!!
Rock God bless you guys!
Best regards!

I hate seeing me do two posts in a row. But this is soprt of separate from the last one.

That's exactly the diagram I want to try out!

Just to remember (I don't know if they're equals on wires):

Bridge: JB Humbucker
Middle: Cool Rails (Single Sized Humbucker)
Neck: Little '59 (Single Sized Humbucker)

Thanks again!!!
Gus

Re: Stack vs Single Sized Humbuckers / Opinions on Strat's Switch/Split Pups Installa

Just to check Knob's Positions:

MASTER VOLUME: The same knob as usual, the upper or first one!

MASTER TONE: The second or in the Middle knob.

BRIDGE'S BLEND VOLUME: The last knob, the lower one!

Thanks again!
Gus

Re: Stack vs Single Sized Humbuckers / Opinions on Strat's Switch/Split Pups Installa

Quick question guys:
May I buy 250k or 500k PUSH/PUSH POTs?

What's the difference between them?

Thanks
Gus

Re: Stack vs Single Sized Humbuckers / Opinions on Strat's Switch/Split Pups Installa

I'm still drawing it up, a little side-tracked by school work, but bear with me, i'm trying to figure this out (it's a learning experience for me).

Buy 500K pots. For buckers and s/c sized buckers they are the way to go as they need more high end filtered through. If you get 250K for buckers, most buckers will sound to flat, muddy or bassy.

General rule is 250K for s/c, 500K for buckers, though I've heard of Gibson using 300K on buckers.

Tacapez,

Bump is an expression people use in forums when they post a message just to make the topic active such that it appears in the top of the list...

BTW: Bem-vindo ao forum ;) Eu sou brasileiro tb!

Re: Stack vs Single Sized Humbuckers / Opinions on Strat's Switch/Split Pups Installa

Okay, I got what i think is right for what you're asking. I shall post it in a bit, when I scan the drawing in. It's all in pencil and my writing is a bit sloppy so an explanation shall follow. Also, when I post it if anyone could draw a neater version and repost the diagram that would probably be beneficial to all.

Got it, just like UP the topic...

Hey Dilney! Glad to hear that we have other Brazilians here! (I'll keep writing in english so everyone can understand this chat too) Are you here in Brazil? Where do you live?
I'm in São Sebastião, North Shore of SP.

So Dilney, let me hear your opinion on my attempt of diagram which Fender is drawing to me!

Thanks for welcome me here! All of you guys, I'm feeling home!

Great! I'm excited, can wait to see it!!! (I'm kidding... I can wait!)

Fine, I'll buy 500k then!

OMG!!! Speechless!!!

If I'll miss something would be good to follow a text explanation so I can follow it!

Also, when I post it if anyone could draw a neater version and repost the diagram that would probably be beneficial to all.

Do you think if I send it to Seymour's Wiring e-mail they could help us out?

Well, I'm very anxious to see this diagram!
And I want to thank everyone who came here to help me and wish this topic could help somebody else as well!!!
Fender_Punk, Special thanks to you my friend! Thank God there's people like you in the world!!!

Re: Stack vs Single Sized Humbuckers / Opinions on Strat's Switch/Split Pups Installa

Hey Tapacez.

Glad you're really excited. I couldn't get on my step dad's computer last night to scan the file in (the all in one printer is hooked up to his computer and he has a password). I'll try tonight when I get home from school.

As for SD re-drawing the wiring, you could always submit it to them as the Tapacez Strat Wiring and they might throw in a re-drawn version in their wiring diagrams. It would be a good question for Evan.

By The Way, who's Evan? Is he from SD?
