  • help a fresh guitar builder choose pup's

I have a friend who makes really good guitars make me one.
I just want to know some good pup's that work together.

    My style is rock/pop/country

the body is alder, the neck maple with rosewood fretboard

I want a humbucker at bridge. I want to be able to split it.
i want a single coil in the middle matching the bridge pup
I want another humbucker at the neck. also able to spilt it

My goal is to be able to have a les paul typ of bridge sound
but also a single coil stratish sound.
and also the nice strat sound in position 2 and 4

is it to much to ask for in one guitar. they dont have to be spot on the sounds.

    Mike

Custom (b), lil 59 (m), Jazz (neck). This would be a versitle combo and give you the various tones you want.

the lil 59 is a humbucker, that won't give him what he wants.

I suggest a 59'b (b) APS-1 (M) Jazz (N) make sure the 59 and jazz have four conductors. That will probably get you some good tones.

Also, if you want humbucking without humbucker tone in the middle get a stacked classic.
You can get a suprisingly good country guitar tone out of a Marshall Halfstack.

CC at the bridge (for a mor Paul-o-licious tone) APS-1 mid (to blend with the split CC) and an APHn at the neck. use a Megaswitch and you will have all the sounds you're looking for (and they will all be noiseless).
          Ain't nothin' but a G thang, baby.

thanx for the tip. what about a duckbucker in the middle position. Seems to have a bit more output.
maybe it should be more balanced against the 59.
            or am i wrong?

btw I read this. this seems cool to. anyone with this combo?

SL59-1 This little brute was designed to impart all of the warm, smooth tone of an old 1959 Patent Applied For humbucker in a direct replacement, single coil size. It possesses an even, dynamic response, and its adjustable pole pieces allow the guitarist to fine tune the string balance and dial in just the right amount of punch. A whole set of Little '59s will deliver a rich, open sound: or a bridge Little '59 matched up with Duckbuckers™ in the neck and middle will provide a best-of-both-worlds '59 Les Paul®/'57 Strat® tone.
