Ive cut the cable on my hotrails a bit short and need a new longer one
I was wonderin where i could get a 4 conductor screended cable online
and how easy is it to replace the existing one

Just extend the exsisting wire with new wire soldered to the old. There is no reason to replace the whole sheilded four conductor wire.

I have a 100 ft (shorter now) spool of 24 guage belden 4 conductor sheilded wiring that I bought for $16 USC. Mostly I use it to rewire LPs but I cut lengths of it to wire guitar guts together as well and I pull the individual conductors as needed. Most electrical supply houses will carry this stuff and a walk through your area phone book plus a couple of calls will find you all the wire you need.

Thanks but i think i do need a new cable cos damaged it at the top in the pickup hole and my dad (electricion) had to wire it up again but we think theres a problem with the screen wire.
Is it hard to connect the cable to the coils?

Not hard but perhaps a little tricky. The coil wires are fairly thin and soldering might be a hassle but it can be done. You need to remove the tape from around the bobbins and find out there the conductors connect to the winds and solder the new leads to the winds.

If you guys mess it up, you can send the pickup to the SD company for new leads. It's reasonably priced and they are pretty quick about it.

What you do is call SD and tell them what the problem is. They will give you a R.A number (return authorization) and then you ship it to them with the RA on the package. They can quote you a price over the phone. I forget the actual price but it should be between $10-20 for a new 4 conductor hookup.

also if your doing this, be careful when soldering near the pickup, you dont want to cause any damage to the wound coil or the magnets with soldering iron heat cause it can dramatically change your pickups quality and sound and probably not for the better

I've had to completely replace the leads on a pickup before. It's not hard at all, just be careful with your soldering. If you remove the tape around the bobbins and then take off the baseplate, you'll see where the 4 conductor wire connects to 4 wires coming from the bobbins.
