Just thought I'd add a pic of the Brian Moore. The APH-1n/PGb combo has REALLY turned my head! I can't get over the tone I'm getting with those p/u's in the i21. It's making me rethink my ES335 (stock neck/Jazz bridge).

The PG in the bridge is nice. Pretty aggressive in the upper mids, but not overly so. It's got some nice dynamics when you're doing "edge of breakup" things. Definitely easier to get that Robben Ford character out of your guitar depending upon your touch.

Nice tone with heavier distortion, and very controlable. In single mode with the tone all the way open (non-TBX) it's got a nice crisp top end with that upper mid spike. It actually "quacks" in a sort of Tele/Strat way, but without the "ice pick."

I think it's a different animal from the APH.

The APH is a great neck pickup....my favorite. I haven't tried the PG bridge pup...but by all accounts it's a great one. Welcome back to the forum.

Thanks for the welcome guys. I'd been a member before, but somehow, my membership got deleted or something.

Took it to a jam Saturday night and it definitely was a hit.

I just added a push/pull pot this afternoon to split the coils, and was surprised again bu the single coil sounds. Not a Strat, but definitely in that character. The PG even "seems to "quack" just a bit in single coil mode. The Alnico II Pro is still sweet sounding.

Welcome to the Forum! The PG is indeed a great pickup for LP style guitars. It's a different take on the PAF, but a tasty one at that.

Sounds cool! The PG is a great bridge pick-up and must sound great through your rig... enjoy!

    Latest Toy

I happpened across a beautiful used Brian Moore i21 single cutaway for around $350.00 and decided to change out the "iM" pickups the same day and ended up with an Alnico II Pro in the neck for that jazz/blues tone, and a Pearly Gates in the bridge for some aggressive mids and a bit of that Robben Ford edge, and I figured it would be a better match for the Fulltone pedals in my rig.

It took some time to find the balance between the 2, but I'm pretty floored by the combination.

I added a TBX tone control (with a .047mf cap to darken the roll off tone a bit more) and I can't seem to put the thing down!

Doesn't bode well for the pickups in some of my other guitars.
