  • Thinking about getting a new neck pup for my LP Std.

I currently have a Rio Grande Texas in my 01' LP Std. I'm not really crazy about it so it's gotta go!

    here's what I'm looking for:

    - Warm, glassy cleans that are pick attack sensitive (Will break-up when strummed hard).

    - LIQUID LEAD TONES (AKA Warren Haynes)

Any ideas? I really like the 59N in my Hardtail. How about a PG? I know Warren uses the PG. Maybe a APII? What about a Dimarzio PAF Pro or Air Zone? Any thoughts on the Anderson's? FWIW, The BEST neck pup that I've tried is the Shaw PAF's that came in the Gibson Heritage guitars.

    Thanks!

I second the PG. It's my fave pickup in a LP.
      Ain't nothin' but a G thang, baby.

I third the PG. It's very attack sensitive if you've got the right setup.

Pearly Gates for a brighter sound, Alnico II Pro for a warmer sound.

Thanks for the replies! Sounds like the PG is the way to go. Can anyone tell me how it compares to the 59N?

The PGn is warmer and smoother than the 59n with more mids and less bottom and top. It's very nice for anything from jazz to Ted Nugent lead tones.

What Robert S said + it is not a bad thing that PGn's are as he said. In fact my humble opinion is that 59s sort of sound more strat-like, and not like a geniuine PAF. PGn's have still some uppermids that will help you to cut through when demanded.
