Question about hot rails. SHR1B SHR1N

Hello. I have a pickup laying around that i pulled out of an older guitar, it's an SHR-1B which is the Hot Rails. It was in the neck position of a parts guitar. It sounded like a neck pickup should for lead work, very thick and creamy for hard rock and metal leads. But it's obvious these pickups weren't made with clean tones in mind. It distorts easy and has a lot of output.

Anyway, i wanted to use it in the neck position of an old Kramer guitar i have. But i noticed the B on the pickup which means Bridge. Are the bridge and neck Hot Rails pickups voiced that much different? Would the SHR-1N work that much better in the neck position.

I'm setting this guitar up for hard rock amd metal tones so clean tones are not that important. Thanks.

They are voiced differently, but both are dark pickups. I'd put it in and try it.

You'll need a hot bridge pup to complement it. The HR is a HOT pup.

Try it. You'll probably like it. It won't hurt anything to put it in the neck position.

BTW, welcome to the forum.

Also, if you don't like it right away perhaps try to wire it in parallel instead of series.
This will lower the output (SD says by about 30% compared to series) but will also alter the tone a little. IT will be more open, more airy apparently.

And welcome to the forum!

Thanks. The guitar it's going in has a solid maple body and the bridge pickup is an Anderson H2+. I do love those Anderson humbuckers, and Anderson guitars just kill as well. The H2+ is pretty hot, and very warm. Even with the solid maple body the tone really isn't that bright. I do like the maple body to get close to the George Lynch screaming lead tone.
