  • schematic for ibanez 5 way

    What schematic do i use with an Ibanez 5 way switch (2 hbuckers)? I am installing a PGneck adn Fullshred bridge.

    Also, what are the equivalent wire colors for dimarzios and duncans?

    As far as wiring the Ibanez switch, thats up to you. Ibanez.com has all sorts of different wiring schemes posted on their site. There are probably a few members around here that might make a few suggestions as well.

      Colour codes:
      DiMarzio = Seymour Duncan
      Red = Black
      Black = White
      White = Red
      Green = Green

      As far as which Ibanez schematic to use, match the one that shows the same model switch that you have, and the same options that you want.

          I know ... I know ... I forgot to include the stock magnetic polarities ... ... Here I'll try to make up for it ... the north coil is the slug or stud coil, and the south coil is the adjustable polepiece coil (referrencing a paf style polepiece arrangement).

            all the info above about pups is absolutely correct ...

            i'll add my 2 cents about the switch itself (if it is an "8 lugs in a row" switch) ... you can verify this info with an ohm meter to test continuity

            O A3
            O A2
            O A1
            O A0
            O B0
            O B1
            O B2
            O B3

            with the 5-way switch:

            in position 1, A3 gets connected to A0 and B3 gets connected to B0

            in position 2, A3 + A2 get connected to A0, and B3 + B2 get connected to B0

            in position 3, A2 gets connected to A0, and B2 gets connected to B0

            in position 4, A1 + A2 get connected to A0 and B1 + B2 get connected to B0

            in position 5, A1 gets connected to A0 and B1 gets connected to B0

            hope this helps

            what are you planning for the 5 positions for your H-H guitar? are you using mini toggles or push/pull pots to do coil splitting?

            cheers,

              They also had one that moved like this, rather than in opposing pairs

              O A3
              O A2
              O A1
              O A0
              O B0
              O B3 ... Instead of B1
              O B2
              O B1 ... Instead of B3

              I don't know off hand if they still use that or not, and if so on what models ... best thing to do is check the number of your switch against the model switch used on various models on the site. Worst case scenario, you'll have to reverse B3 and B1 connections.

              I assume he's not talking about the VLX switch, which is a 4P5T
              switch of course, but that's on the site also.

                I'm not using any minitoggles or push/pull pots.. maybe i should.

                According to the ibanez site, this is what my switch is supposed to do:
                Pos 1 : bridge
                Pos 2: inner coils
                Pos 3: neck and bridge
                Pos 4: neck parallel
                Pos 5: neck series

                ive got 1 volume pot and 1 tone pot. let me know if you have any other suggestions. i really dont know much about coil splitting and if i should do it

                thanks

                  woah !! ... i have no idea how the switch i described could do those combos without a toggle or push/pull ... i'll have to ponder that one a while ...

                  getting 'inner' coils involves splitting them

                  good luck and let us know how it goes

                  cheers,

                    I found my current wiring diagram :

                    http://www.ibanez.com/wiring/wire.asp?y=2001&w=RGT42

                    is there need for any other push/pull pots?

                        No need for a push pull and I more or less see what they are doing but it would be nice to have the powersound color codes and polarities.

                          Yeah, I think I know one of the schematics that your are looking at, if you are using standard SD's then you'll have to reverse the magnet on one pup ...
                          you can do it as is, but you'll have to turn one pup around backwards. Which means you may not like the polepieces of choice (they difference is very subtle). That above combo (stock IBZ) gives a nice array of tones. You should be able to use the bridge pup as is (black +, green ground, and red and white as taps) ; then neck I'd have to think about, If you can't get it toss me a PM and i'll try to get a JPG worked up for you. Then generally flip the neck mag, and it's phase (green+, Black ground, and red and white as tap lines ... except they are separate due to the parallel option )., in general though it depends on whether they tap in split coils is a ground tap or a hot tap.
