  • Installing a 3-way toggle in a J-P bass... help?

My friend has a Squier Jazz/P bass. It has 2 volume pots, and one master tone pot. We want to replace one of the pots with a toggle switch so he can choose between the pickups. We want one volume and one tone that controls both pickups. Would we need to use a mini switch or regular 3 way toggle switch?

Another option we thought about was to have a push pull pot that would cut out the jazz pickup.

What would you recommend doing? Maybe some schematics?

Hi Cory; Are you talking about just using a standard 3-way with two p'ups, like this:

(I doodled this from another drawing, so the colors and pickups are not the exact ones, but you should get the idea.)

Click here for the full size drawing.
