  • Bass pickups WITH thumbrests?

Some stock pups on basses have thumbrests already built in. It's a really great idea.... some Ibanez and Yamaha basses are as comfortable as hell. Fenders are also incredibly comfortable, but none of the stock pickups include this feature.

Does Duncan, DiMarzio, EMG or any other pickup company make replacement bass pickups that include thumb dents?

If not, why? Seymour, if you're reading this, here's a great idea!
It's such a fine line between stupid and clever.

You might want to try what I did: simply cut a notch out of the bottom of a Fender-style thumbrest, and install it over the end of the pickup. I use it as sort of a dummy string when playing the E, since I rest my thumb on the next lowest string when playing the others.

Of course, this technique will work on P- and J-style pickups, but not a MusicMan...unless you had the thumbrest slightly forward of the pickup, flush to the edge and overlapping only one of the screws (or centered with the pickup if the bass is a lefty).
Let's go where the raptor goes....
