Bump for the day...can't believe that all of the experts haven't chimed in with their usual technical garb.

Come on pup techno guys...what is the scoop? Which one is which and how do you make a decision between which one to order....if they both respresent identical eras?

probably becasue there are already 8 threads that already contain this information from 2009... it getīs boring repeating the same things every 2 weeks

In each of these threads there is at least on mention of the 78 and teh IM1: https://forum.seymourduncan.com/sear...archid=1657481

The '78 represents that famous pickup as if it were new in 1978 (or thereabouts).
The IM1 represents that pickup as of today, 30 years later.

For complete specs on the IM1, call the Custom Shop and talk to MJ. She knows more about it than anyone here.

Re: IM1 and 78' what are the differences

^^ the 78 is in no way related to the PU in the frankies, completely different in spec... It does however represent a PU the SD rewound for EVH in ī78.

The IM1 is the CS own approximation of the Pickup that is in the frankies today, ie is the SD version of the EVH exclusive pickup that SD makes for EVH /FMIC... Spec wise it too is far fom teh ī78.

These 2 pickups could not be more unrelated, the only things they share are vintage style construction and an EVH connection...

And opening up exactly this can of worms, AGAIN, is part of why not much has been said as well as the entire reason I posted a search link to all threads that mention both PUs. This has been discussed ad nauseum 8 or 9 times since november...

Here are 5 threads that should each contain more than enough info...

Ok, I forgot the rewound part of the '78. My bad.

I wasn't about to throw all the details out there...... again. A general description is all that's needed anymore (those 5 threads are proof).

Great..thanks for sharing too bad that it nauseates you if the question gets asked again.... actually too fn bad IMO because you don't have to respond. Nobody complaining about all of the JB threads. But I do appreciate you linking the threads on this one as it makes this thread more comprehensive.

I read the Woody Tone thread.

And to be honest with you I can cop any of the VH sounds with my rigs...and current pup. It's really a matter of how one plays and there amp and EQ....pups a fine tuning piece.....a CC or 59 will generlly do it very well...but it is more in the player.

One of the best examples of this is an interview I read with Sammy Hagar and EVH. EVH told Sammy to plug into his rig and when he did....Sammy said he sounded like crap and couldn't even play well on it...so what does that tell you with all else being equal except the player.
