Re: most versatile pickup combination..
what about the nekc pup?
i like to do alot of my leads in the neck spot, i mix between them alot like john petrucci does. so i need a neck pup that can do that, would a hot rails be able to do that? the cleans would be with the 4th and middle spot
so a C5 is out?

Personally, I'd think about some APS-2's in neck and mid with a JB in the bridge. I kind of like lower DC single coils-I think they'd cover you for country/jazz and rock-you can still juice them with an OD pedal for the heavy stuff.
The JB is solid-popular for a reason-it will cover you when you need the crank it up, and the cleans are great.
As for the funky stuff-the 2 and 4 position split with the JB will give you that thin/quacky sound that I kind of like for some flava.
Good luck!

most versatile pickup combination..
ok, what i need now is the most versatile pickup combination for an H-S-S guitar. i need to be able to play everything from progressive metal(DT style) to jazz, to country.
my first ideas are the following:
1) C5 bridge, ssl-1 middle, lil 59 neck
2) JB bridge, vintage rails middle, jb jr neck
3) custom bridge, duckbucker middle, vintage rails neck
so far, im leaning for the C5/ssl-1/lil 59. from what i've heard, the C5 will be very versatile, and the ssl-1 will be good for getting funk tones, and the lil 59 is great for fast leads and cleans for when i do jazz.
whats your opinions and feel free to post any other ones. i dont care if it's dimarzio or duncans eitherTags: None
