What bridge pickup for my guitar?

I can't decide what bridge pu to install in my *overly bright* guitar, a Carvin strat with alder body, thick maple top and ebony fingerboard.

I play from rock to metal.

What I need from the pickup.....

Lots of pick attack

"flat" response (no mid hump)

punchy, aggresive .

Sounds decent when split, clean sound..

These are the ones I'm thinking of: C, Screamin' Demon, JB........

Any suggestion?

welcome to the board xavier.

what you have there is kinda contradicting. firstly, overly bright means too much treble response. no flat response pup is gonna tame the brightness. you will need something middy to counteract the trebles.

as for your carvin, is it a maple neck thru with alder wings? if it is, you have a lot of maple in there plus an ebony board. phew!

to be honest, there's only two pups i can think of that will complement your guitar. the invader and cc.

invader has big lows and muted treble. chunky, aggressive, perfect for metal riffing. think metallica's puppets tone. no idea how it sounds split though.

cc has enhance mids and rounded highs. the a2 mag will mush the lows. very sweet tone that will warm up any cold guitar.

alternatively, you can try using 250k vol/tone pots to tame the highs of a dc, jb or c5. but there's no guarantee how they might sound in your guitar as you mileage may vary.

hope that helped.

Dimarzio Super 3. It has great low end with good mids and rolled back highs as well as some crazy output which is in the 22k range.

I have a Carvin DC127 with an all maple body, Wilkinson floating trem, and an ebony fretboard. I have a CC at the bridge of this guitar and I couldn't be happier. I think all Carvins should come stock with a CC at the bridge. BTW, in a Carvin, the CC is not mushy in the lows at all.

Re: What bridge pickup for my guitar?

well, if ur axe has a floyd try the PATB-2. your bridge tone wont sound too bright and flat. if not then the DD or Super Distortion would work out great for ya.

The Blues trembucker would work great! How did I forget about that one! :smack: The Dimarzio Super D would also work, but I preffer the sweetness of the CC over the chunk of the Super. I think the Duncan Distortion would be a bit too bright for the Carvin, though.

+1 Damn Benjy, I think we have the same taste or something.

Re: What bridge pickup for my guitar?

Thanks all for the input !! Fact is, I have a CC I purchased years ago. I tried it in my Steinberger copy and it sounded like ass. No punch, no highs, all mids. Maybe I should give it a try.

My Carvin is not neck through, but a strat copy. Carvins are bright by nature.... By the way I have a Wilkinson trem, not a FR

I also thought about the Invader, but all the reviews are fairly on the negative side, so I don't know.......... I still play clean (split coils)

I think youd dig the Custom. Since your guitar is already to bright as it is, you definately don't want a JB. I would get a Custom if I were you. Customs are pretty aggressive pickups. :saeek:

Looks like GuitarGuy beat me to it. Sounds like a Custom might be right up your alley. Very aggressive and has the punch you need to pull of metal and rock. Its a nice balanced pickup as well. The Invader may work well too, since it is has less high end that may balance a bright guitar, but I would highly recommend the Custom.

use the custom with 250k pots. it will tame the highs.

The thing about the Invader is that its really not a very well balanced pickup in comparison to the Custom. So as I said before, I'd really recommend the Custom.
