I have a c5 in it now for the bridge and kinda like it but am wondering if the guitar is too dark for the lack of mids of the c5. I wonder if the custom custom is too midrangey? Any oppinions or experiences? I also have a 2004 les paul studio I am wondering about. It is even darker than the 1994 classic goldtop I have. The c5 sounded great in my Schecter C1+ because the mids were more prominent than the les pauls but I am forced to sell it on ebay to pay for the 2004 studio. Check out the auction on ebay under c1 plus or inkblottest.

if a c5 is too dark then i dont think a cc would be a good choice, i think you are going the wrong way. try a custom, more mids than the c5 and more top end. it does have a more aggressive tone

I agree with Jeremy. The CC won't do it for you. You might try a JB or '59 also. Try adjusting the height on the C5 1st. That pup really should be bright enough for a maple cap guitar like the LP.

Re: C5 (VS) CUSTOM CUSTOM in a 1994 les paul classic
My bass player complains that I get lost in the mix and am in his frequency with the C5. I have a custom custom and just put it in to see if it shuts him up. If it doesnt I will try the custom. I have already tried the jb and found it to be too compreesed and that mid spike thing annoys me ALTHOUGHT THE LOWS WERE GREAT.My bands links:

I have a Custom Custom bridge in my Epi Paul. I don't think it's dark at all, has great mids and is nice and crunchy. I can see how the c5 might be more that way. I don't think I have any problems cutting through and no one has ever said it's a problem. And, as always, don't forget you can tweak the amp also. I've often used an eq pedal to juice a solo so it cuts through.Originally posted by Bad City

Do you find the CC to have lacking lows or overly distorted? Those are my observations so far. I do like the mids and the unoffending highs though. My bands links:

What kind of speakers do you have in your amp? That makes a huge influence on midrange quality.

I play a voodoo modded mesa dual rectifier 2 channel (1997) and a mesa oversized cab with vintage 30s. I am on the waiting list for a Voodoo cabinet with celestion 75 watt speakers. The Voodoo cab smokes the mesa in the side by side comparison we did. The Voodoo is tighter and doesnt sound brittle it is also fron loaded and made of birch. My bands links:

Re: C5 (VS) CUSTOM CUSTOM in a 1994 les paul classic
Just got home from practice and took the custom custom out. It sounded good but kinda compressed/ not airy as the c5. It has good smooth highs but not as cool lows. The mids were good but Not anything my amp wont compensate for with the mid boost I had installed. If there is a pickup like the c5 but with the non offending highs and thick mids of the custom custom I am sold. Any idea if changing the c5 magnet to a alnico3 or 4 will get this effect? My bands links:
