Re: what pups do i have?
Use 500k CTS pots, follow the wiring for two humbuckers with a three way switch on the SD webpage and I would use .022 Orange Drop caps. This'll give you a quality, baseline sound that you can tweak with diffrent pots and caps.

Re: what pups do i have?
yup thats what ya got a pgn and a cc. if you had asked what pups to get for your '81 lp cstm i might have said those pups so you are in good shape.
i would get some good 500k audio taper pots and use some nickel strings. i used to have a '79 (if im remembering correctly) lp that had a maple neck and fingerboard. i ran 500k pots with the tone controls run at about 8 and got a great sound from that guitar. very bright for a lp but also more focused than most gibsons which i liked

Welcome to the Forum!
You have a CC bridge and a Pearly Gates neck. It's an awesome set and will do very well for the styles you just described. I have a PG set in my LP Standard and they rip @ss.

what pups do i have?
i have been given 2 SD humbuckers 1 says CC on the tag so i think it is a custom custom and the other says pgnl. is this a pearly gates neck pup?
I would also welcome any wiring sugestions. I work in a guitar reclamation center and have friends here who were actually techs for gibson in their custom shop so installation is no problem but they don't have much input for different sound ideas. i am working with a 1981 gibson les paul cutom with a maple neck it has been gutted and refretted so i am starting from scratch on the electronics. will put a tonepros bridge on it.
i am 20 and have played for 7 years but have limited budget and experience in guitar setups. i play with a medium attack on the strings. the sound i am going to use this guitar for would be classic to hard rock, somewhat similar to Velvet Revolver. all suggestion will be greatly appreciatedTags: None
