hmm, personaLLY i think none of the SD pups sound like the Dimarzio Evo. very few pups from diff companies sound the same actually.

I agree with IM Ken. I owned 2 Jems with Evos- one now has Duncans and the other guitar I sold. I think the evo is pretty unique- and not all that good.

If you like the evo then get the evo IMHO.

It uses the Dual resonence technology which Dimarzio patented. Your best bet is making a hybrid of something like a JB and a 59 if you must go with duncan.

                Excellent d*mn idea!!

......and obviously, you want a ceramic magnet, as well!

(I didn't check, so I don't know if the JB uses a ceramic or not)

I bet you'd come pretty close!!!

When I put my old Evolution in my hardtail Charvel, it was actually quite a rockin' pickup. I wish I still had it, but only for occasional evil riffing.

....and I know I've said this before, but I'll always wonder what it would've sounded like with an A5 or A4 magnet.

It's actually not as overwound as people think.....I believe it's only around 13k or something. It's not so much that the pickup is "super powerful", so much that it IS louder & hotter than a PAF, and very "loud" with respect to the frequencies that it's focused on.

Have you tried calling or emailing them?

                        Re: Which SD = Evolution?

DiMarzio is generally very responsive to email. I had a problem once and sent an email. I got an email reply from one of the company vice-presidents the same day. They investigated and the problem was solved within a few hours. (It turned out the regional distributor never placed my dealer's order. This was confirmed by my dealer.)

If you like the Evo, buy the Evo. It is a unique pickup but not for everyone. I have one in an Ibanez Iceman. I love the way it screams, but it isn't the most versatile pickup.
