Re: Probs with my RG3120
straight off, try using a shorter lead, straight into the amp (no pedals in the way) you could just have tone suck from a long lead or whatever..
failing that, i've just packed off my 85/85 combo and switched totally to duncans lol - if you're only going to do prog and the like, EMGs are a decent choice
the only thing is, i *don't* like the 85 in the neck. with both on, it's ok - but it always sounded bassy and muddy for me, even with the 18v mod..
saying that, i got a hot rails in the neck of a strat instead now... and that is one hell of a shred pickup
bottom line on the EMGS - try them though youre amp and in a similar guitar first. you'll either love or hate the results.

Probs with my RG3120
hey guys
ive got a problem....
i have an RG3120 right now - with TZ and PAF Pro - and it just doesnt do it for me any more!!
it sounds kinda...di-ckie!!??
lots of treble, not warm, and its just not livley
when playing lead, it sounds really thin and icepicky in the bridge
its primarily a metal guitar and i want to use it as my shredding/metal playing
im into metallica tones, porcupine tree heavy tones, and John Petrucci's tone on Dream Theater's Train of Thought album
as a result of all this, i was thinking of going active! ive never been there before and it might be fun
im thinking of getting an 85/85 combo
what do you guys think of this?
or is there a better pickup avenue to go for? passive or active
any help with this would be great!
thanks!
