  • what middle position single coil?

i need a middle position single coil for my san dimas charvel, in the future it will have a custom in bridge, a lil 59 in neck and i dont knwo for the middle.

i'd be using it for my fun stuff, country stuff, and just over all cleaner stuff. what would be good in it?

my first idea was the ssl-1, but im just asking.

I like the APS better than the SSL-1. It has rounder highs and lows with a touch more mids that seem to react better to OD but still have all the twang and spit that a good single has.
    Ain't nothin' but a G thang, baby.

i think either of those would be a good choice but if youre gonna do country, the ssl1 might be a better choice. a little brighter and spankier.
in general i prefer the aps but i think the ssl might be better for your application

well i dont like big wiring systems. i like it simple, so unfortunately i probably wouldn't do the parallel/series thing.

how would ssl-1 be like for the funk stuff?

The SSL-1 would be brighter and have a tighter bottom end than the APS-1. Might be better for funk, definitely better in the middle for country. The SSL's have a slightly cleaner, more acoustic tone in the middle of a Strat to my ears.

Personally, I like the APS in the neck, an SSL in the middle, then a humbucker, Twangbanger, etc in the bridge for a versitile Strat, but that's just me.
