  • Pickup mounting ?'s

Is there a tonal difference between mounting a pup to a pickguard (like an SG) or right into the guitar body(wood)?

    Re: Pickup mounting ?'s

Some people insist that there is a difference, but I can't figure out why. The pickups react to metal strings vibrating within their magnetic field. They do not react directly to sound. Wood, hollow body, etc. all affect the way the strings vibrate. The only thing that might change with different mounting methods is vibration of the pickup itself. How that might be better one way or the other is beyond me, but YMMV.
