The Jazzn, wow!

I got a brand new one for half the price, I didn't really need it but I couldn't let this deal pass.
Now that it's in my LP paired with a JB I must say, wow this pickup rocks! It's exactly what I need, very clear, dynamic and even with a deep tone. It sounds almost like this pickup is both smooth and sparkly at the same time. :)
I wonder why it got this name, since it's actually very versatile (I would say more than the '59n). It holds up very well under high gain too.

I like this pickup much more than the '59 that was in there. Come to think of it, I never really liked the '59/JB combo, too much of a tonal difference. Yeah, now I'm one of those people who realise Seymour himself was right all along... :smack:

I'll try to record something next weekend.

Aw man, I remember we had the same problem with the 59...boomy and muddy under gain...Maybe the Jazz would be perfect for me.

+1 - I made the switch and am a hapy guy

Re: The Jazzn, wow!

I like the jazz too, deep enough just not too deep to get muddy, and I was impressed at how it handles gain too.

I think it would, IMHO the Jazz sounds like the '59 but with less bass/boom/mud.

Re: The Jazzn, wow!

The Jazz neck is 'usable' at most with high gain but IMO is simply to shrilly and outdated. The Full Shred Neck is so much better than any other Duncan PU for high gain. I'm glad you like the Jazz but I simply don't get it and probably never will.

I don't understand either why you have to go through the Duncan Custom shop to get a better than average wax potted neck PU !?

Duncan could simply put the EVH neck out at regular price and keep the EVH bridge as their mystery PU.

I had exactly the same problem! You can get me a '59 bridge any day, but the neck never sounds good overdriven in mahogany bodies. If I can score a Jackson KE2 fast I'll be getting a Jazz as well (comes with the package :duh: :cool3: ). If it isn't all that I'll be replacing it with a DiMarzio Air Norton, you can't go wrong with that pick up :32:

The Air Norton is hotter but has so much more character then the Jazz and therefore always a good choice. So is the DiMarzio EJ neck which is voiced similar to the Jazz but not as super bright sounding.

Re: The Jazzn, wow!

Great, that you like the pickup!
@ motorhead: i think it depends on the wood.
I found the 59 too dark in the explorer (mahagony) and was satisfied with the Jazz.
I think that both are similar, with the difference that the Jazz let pass the highs, which are rounded or cutted by the '59.
I would say the the jazz sounds like a mix of a humbucker and a single-coil because its very sweet and clear.

Well Put!!!
It's what HFH tries to be.
More/better output,tho!

Re: The Jazzn, wow!

I like both pickups, just in different guitars.
The diMarzio (HfH) in the Ibanez (PGM),
the Duncan (Jazz) in the Gibson (Explorer)

Re: The Jazzn, wow!

Yeah motorhead and that's exactly what I like about the Air Norton. Clarity under high gain, huge picking attack, great harmonics, great response, and the clean ups are to die for. So amazing! I've mixed Duncans and DiMarzios once, and I'll do it again if I have to! But my top priority is an amp+cab after or perhaps before I get that KE2
