  • Remember this thread:HENDRIX/SRV/TROWER tone!

Hey guys, this was a great thread and thanx alot to everyone who helped out.
I've been away for awhile trying to salvage the sound of my Strat w/2 humbucker pickups SD, N59 & PGB and came to the conclusion, they need to go.Just dont sound right.Believe me I tried everything cause they are good pickups but I need to move on.
We were discussing the ANTIQUITIES for the HENDRIX/TROWER etc sound and thats what Im gonna have installed.
Not sure if SURFERS or TEXAS HOTS,need it to sound full in the bridge spot to for more hard rock stuff,ZEPPLIN,BAD CO,etc....
I found a good guitar tech localy who deals with Seymour Duncan and he's gonna install them.
Question if anyone can help;if I go with the SURFERS,they come with the hotter bridge pickup correct?would that be a good choice for the more rockin stuff?
Also, would 250 or 500 pots matter and whats a blender pot?Been hearing alot
    about it here.
    Lew still selling these pickups?
    Thanx alot

I'm suprised your having trouble getting the sound's you want w/t them PuPs?
What are you useing for a Amp ? My Strat has a Lil'59er bridge and a
Alnico II (APS-II) in the neck. I use a TS-9, crybaby Wah into a SF Twin.
I never had a problem getting a decent Zep or Bad Co. tone from the 59er.
Or a killer Hendrix ,SRV or Trower tone (and Phaser) w/t the APS-II.

That's a very cool amp. How does it sound without the Ext. cab?
Some Marshall cabs run a 16 ohm load. Your amp will run at 8 or 4 ohms.
If you have a impedance mismatch? this could cause it to sound dull.
Here's a cool link i found Fender hotrod deluxe mods

It actually sounds alittle better without the cab,but with the 2 together it sounds horrible.
Right now I've been just using the Marshall cab, unhooking the speaker in the amp.
If it is a impedance mismatch, how do you fix it?
          Thanx

Most likely you have 2 16 ohm speakers wired in series = 16 ohms
If you wire them in pararell ,If I'm not mistaken should = 8 ohms
Plug it back into the amp w/t the other 8 ohm speaker will = a 4 ohm load
Witch I think your amp can handle (check the manual in the other link !!)
Here's another link that may help you understand how to rewire you cab.
            Weber Q & A Scroll down
            to the wireing chart.
