  • Urgent: Wiring Duncan Jazz Pickup????

Installing a Duncan Jazz in the neck position. This pickup has 3 wires and a bare wire and the foil shield/plastic insulator surrounding all wires. It does not have the black which is normally the hot. I only intend to use it as a humbucker; no coil splits needed. Since it does not follow the standard Duncan wiring pattern how do I hook it up???

Thanks in advance for your help. Have a great week.

Hey Brent; You definitely should have 4 wires, plus the bare wire. Is it possible that its not a genuine SD Jazz?

If you're sure that it is, look very closely at the end of the wire bundle, where it comes out from the black insulation. You might be able to see the end of the black wire which may have broken off just under the edge.

Also, if you have a meter, measure resistance from green to red. It should be approximately 3.86k to 3.95k ohms depending on whether its a neck or bridge version. You shouldn't get anything when measuring from white to either red or green. If you do, its either been modified, or its not a genuine Jazz.

Let us know what you find out.
