Seymour Duncan custom custom vs. Dimarzio Super distortion

Between these to pickups which one would be more open sounding and brighter.

I've never actually played a Super D but I'm fairly certain it's quite a bit brighter than a Custom Custom. I don't think they're very similar pickups.

What kind of guitar are you wanting to put it in to play what kind of music?

Its going into a Ibanez Prestige RG1550m,basswood body,maple neck.

I have the Super D in a couple of Ibanez, and it is a pretty overpowering pup. I tend to use it in guitars I really like the feel of, but not the best sounding acoustically.

The CC is a totally different sound, and more subtle compared to a Super D.

What sort of music are you playing?

What amp will you be using?

What sort of sound are you looking for?

I never thought Custom Custom sparked so much interest. I thought it was kinda in the backseat compared to JB or else. I have Custom Custom and I think it's good if you are looking for distorted but well articulated solo, like for jazz fusion kind, but definitely not for heavy riffs.

The SuperD is infinitely more 'open' than the CC period.

SuperD = Big tight bass, big loud mids, and agressive highs. at a pleasant 13k or so...

CC = Loose moderate bass, MONSTER mids, and unbelievably fat highs. 14k(?)

Totally different creatures. I would not use them for at all the same tunes/styles. SuperD is very flexible compared to a CC, IMO.

I have Les Pauls with each.

Super Distortion = Van Halen 1.

I played the Super for a while. Its mostly bass and low mids. Decent treble, but its not bright. I would think it would be more like the SH-5 Custom, with less treble.

So it sounds like im better off with the Duncan custom if its going to have more treble,the custom custom sounds real flubby and bassy(muddy)less open sounding less highs.

Yep, a Custom Custom is intended to warm up a hard, bright guitar. In an already warm guitar it can be buttery warm goodness, but it can also just be a loose mess.
