    This is not the case.

Yes, the JB and Distortion are the same except for the magnets.

Wire: different spec'ed poly wire (same copper, different build poly wire)

TPL: one is smaller than the other.

Turns: 2% different. Close, but not cigar.

Coil geometry: here is where the biggest difference lies among the two.

I can't be more specific because these are trade secrets.

You can call the BS flag if you so wish. I don't care.

          I just call spade a spade 'cause I KNOW it's a spade.

It's not your secret, you're under no obligation to conceal it, but you've made your intent clear, so no point badgering you any further on the values.

              Question two - Sources?

I had an oversized ceramic in my JB and I don't remember it sounding exactly like a Distortion? It did sound good though.

                      By WHO exactly?

Mind you, I'm by no means trying to be dense or anything.

I just wanna know the source and a link to the actual post or document would help lots, as my own personal experience says they're SIMILAR, but not the same.

                      Thank you in advance.

Not to discount or invaldiate your experience, what is the source of the above or this?

Did your ears tell you that a JB with a double-height ceramic magnet sounds dissimilar enough to not be the same pickup as a Distortion when playing both pickups? Did you take one apart? Did you get to see some nifty stuff at User Group Day? I don't think answering only yes or no to any of those questions or specifying which one you were answering would put you at liability for revealing trade secrets.

To be fair, when I think about it, I don't know where I first saw the double height ceramic Magnet + JB = Distortion or Distortion + more eramic magnets & truss head scew pole pieces = Invader either. When I realize I've been guilty of repeating that as the truth without ever questioning it or seeking the original source, it kinda bugs me.

I can't find anything from Frank or someone else who can speak with authority on the matter right now, though I'll be looking.

                          To Koreth:

I've taken apart a fair amount of p'ups and I've taken notes of the principal characteristics that allowed me to repair'em if needed. Some years ago I partnered with another guy to wind p'ups, but after three years of trying to make it worth our while, we decided that it just wasn't enough request of that service in my neck of woods to ever become profitable, so I too decided to not carry the venture on by myself.

But I got some knowledge as collateral damage!

Thank you! But I couldn't find anything either... and until Frank or somebody else tells me otherwise so I can stand corrected, following my own experience I can state: SIMILAR? YES! THE SAME? NO!

Anyone who really wants to know could contact Seymour Duncan and maybe they'd tell you (although maybe not). As far as I'm concerned, same pickup, different magnets.
