So how do I know how to adjust these? What will it change in the sound. I have a JB by the way.

That they fit the fretboard radiusis a good way to go and gives you a nice string to string balance. Remember there is a pickup height where the JB sounds the best. Just trust your ears. The values (on the faq of the page!) are a good point to start.

Thanks. So basically its like fine tuning the pickup high for each string, correct? Are there any other kinds of general advice for this such as spacing between treble strings and bass or something?

i usually have the pup a little closer to the treble strings than the bass. it is like fine tuning. mess around and see what works for you

I noticed my sound got alot fuller when I adjusted the poles. Especially the mids.
