  • What Seymour D.pickups for Yamaha???

    Hi to all.
I have bought a Yamaha Pacifica-604w because of its comfort neck. It is made of, Body:Adler, Neck: Maple, Fretboard: Rosewood.
Feels nice but sounds a bit plastic. Has 2 single coils, 1 dual single, Yamaha's Alnico V.
I like Strats sound, so I decide to have a set of Seymour D.pickups.
The big sister, Pacifica 812V, has the same woods and style and uses: Seymour Duncan Vintage Staggered single Coil Pickups X 2, Seymour Duncan JB Humbucker X 1.
Is it wise to follow Yamaha's choise, or, feel free to choose something else?
The tone Wizard in Seymour D. site, it is preaty close to that choise anyway.
I like playing Blues/Rock mostly with a Fender Tube Amp.
Any suggestions will be very helpfull.
    Thanks a lot.

First and foremost, welcome to the forum Nikos!

I have a Yamaha Pacifica of the same specs as you (lower end model though), and use a Cool Rails in the neck and a Duncan Distortion in the bridge. While the Distortion might be a bit too extreme for your tastes, I could certainly recommend with Cool Rails. Lovely smooth tone, the notes blend into each other if you're playing at shred-like speeds (not a good thing IMO).

I agree, the cool rails might be a great pick-up for the single coils... Another one to consider would be a nice Alnico II staggered or flat, great vintage strat sound.

For the humbucker the JB would probably be a great choice, The pearly gates might also be something you would want to consider.

if it were mine I would go Alnico II singles stagered or flat and a Pearly gates in the bridge...it already sounds good just thinking about it!!

hello and welcome to the forum

for that guitar / that amp / that music, i recommend:

hot rails neck or lil 59 neck
          hot rails middle
          JB bridge

          good luck

I have a pacifica too ,lower end. Bought it for the same reason as you! gotta love the pacifica necks
I was dissatisfied with the stock humbucker from yamaha cos IMHO i think it lacks clarity and character when distorted. I play rock and metal. After swapping it for a JB i am really satisfied with the definition when picking note for note...

+1 for the JB, it'll cover a lot of ground and do most styles.

for the bridge humbucker, the pearly gates might be worth a look? the JB is a good choice, no doubt about that, but the pearly gates might suit you.. it just strikes me as a possibility?

either way, welcome and good luck finding your sound
