  • Strat - Middle Pick-up...

I've got a Fender Standard Strat, Alnico II Staggered in the Bridge, Fender Lace Sensor in the Neck, and I want a new pick-up for the Middle...
I've considered a lipstick tube, mainly for the looks, but it says it has a kool sound in the middle position...
I've been playing more Jimi Hendrix and some SRV type stuff lately, obvisouly I want something that will go well with my Alnico II...

I'm willing to consider anything as long as it's seymour duncan.
    Thanks guys

How about a Five-Two... I don't know much about it, but it appears it mite go well with the Alnico II

I would move the APS staggered to the middle and put a Twang Banger in at the bridge.

That's kool, would there be any problem moving a bridge pick-up to the middle position, or you think it would be just fine?

Also, can anybody give me some details on the Five-Two... It seems kool to me.

Ive never used a Five-Two so i cant help you there, i think moving the aps-2 to the middle and puttinga twangbanger in the bridge would sound awesome, theres some guys in this forum that have done that and said they realy liked it.

Then again, your Aps isnt RW/RP so a Five-Two might work well.

move the APS to the neck, where it sounds great, get an SSL-1 for the mid, and SSL-3 for the bridge

as mentioned, if the APS isn't RWRP, it's not as well suited for the mid spot

I say do what Curly said sorta, Aps to the neck, get and SSL-1 or another Aps RW/RP in the middle, and maybe a Twangbanger or SSL-3 in the bridge, depending on your prefrence.

i got a 5/2 in the middle of a MIJ strat, its MUCH more hendrix-sounding than SRV.. very clear, tangy, twangy pickup. i like it best with a flanger. i got a texas hot neck, and the two are a good pair (texas hot is a bit lower output than the SSL1)

So... that SSL-3 would be a bit higher output than my APII?
Sounds like Curly's idea would be very vintage and rockin...
Would the APII in the neck position have as much bluesy sound as my lace sensor (my favorite part about that pick-up and reason I am thinking about leaving it in the neck position...)

yes the aps should be as bluesy as the lace sensor, its a very warm bluesy pickup. i say do what curly said. or go with a Twangbanger in the bridge, and another Aps- Rw/rp in the middle, some guys in this forum have that set and would agree that it is great.
