  • Alnico 2 in a JB

I've been hearing about putting an Alnico 2 in a Duncan JB in order to tame the high end a little bit, which sounds like what I'd like to do, and I'm just wondering if any Alnico 2 bar magnet will work. Torres carries them for $8 each and I was wondering if this would do the trick to tame the JB in my Les Paul.

Cool name... expect the flaming to commence

For $8 give it a shot. If you don't like it, chances are, someone on here will buy it from you.

The name is actually tongue-in-cheek - I have a friend who is into emo and has a shirt that has the back view of 3 stereotypical emo kids holding hands that says Emo Is Awesome, and I think it's the funniest thing I've seen in a long time.

Keep us posted. I've got a JB and would be interested to hear. Don't know if you know, but the JB was made for 250K pots.

            Yeah, it's here

You'll also find a new version there with Rid doing the intro solo on an A2 59'

Sorry, no can do a before/after, mine came as A2 as it's the JB Prototype... I'm not entirely sure how different that would sound from changing an A5 JB to an A2 JB, but it sure does rock

the top end is rolled off, the lower mids have a better punch, the whole pup sounds fuller, whill still retaining the JB qualities. singing heights and a tight bass response.
if i get an a2 in my hands i'll def try it out

Ok I PM'd Stevo, turns out the JB proto is exactly an A2 JB with nothing different other than the magnet swap... In which case it's a very cool pup

I did that to the JB in my Hamer (swapped magnest with a CC) a year or so ago. It's one of the best sounding Duncan pups I can think of. Try it. You can't lose anything. If you don't care for it, switch back. If I get some time, I'll try to do a sample.

that a2 jb sounds smokin!!!!!!!!! i may have to try it in my 1991 hamer sunburst which i am trying an old full shred in right now one of the FS-1's it's like 13.06k but if this isn't smokin i think an a2 JB could be the ticket!
