In the neck position, is this like having a humbucker in the neck, or more like a quiet P-90?

I think so. I have p-100's in a Studio Paul. Same thing, but I don't think they are as hot. I don't like the tone of them. I would rather have something both more vintage/authentic and something with more kick & bite. I think we are looking for the same thing. I'm going with the Paul Reed Smith thing - Vintage in the neck and Custom neck in the Bridge (whenever MJ gets back with me! Are you out there????). I think that's going to give me a good range. I'll be doing blues and rock, and maybe a bit of Jazz on that axe. I don't mind the hum since I'm not recording. Keep in touch seeker of great p-90 tone!

I accually want a humbucker in the neck (mini would be optimal) of this P-90 guitar. I want a neck pickup that will be able to handle gain without farting out. Thanks for the input.
