Problem

Okay I turn the gain all the way up on my amplifier and set the other nobs like it says in the manual to play metal, but it still sounds like its just amplifying the sound without changing it. What is up with this? Are my pickups not working right?
I use the 5 way switch in all five positions but it does nothing.

Re: Problem

First off, you probably don't need all the gain your amp has on tap for a metal sound because gain can be overdone. Second of all, can you elaborate on the problem for me? Am I to take it that the sound is still "clean" and isn't overdriving?

Re: Problem

Okay I'll be more specific. When I plug in the guitar, it sounds just like the guitar sounded without the amp, only louder.
On the first setting on the 5 way switch, its real quiet. on the next four settings it louder but all the same.

Re: Problem

Can you tell us about the amp? Brand, model, class (tube or solid state) how many channels etc.

Re: Problem

I don't know the answer to your question, but whenever I have a problem, something like this usually helps.

Re: Problem

It is a peavey rage 158 transitube series.
Actually sometimes it plays metal fine but other times it just will not produce a metal-like sound at all. The sound is clean with no overdrive and it does it even when I switch it off the clean channel.
I have two guitars and it does it with both of them.

Re: Problem

I have a Yamaha SS combo that used to do something similar. The channel push button was failing and won't properly switch to the distorted channel. I had to repeatedly press it many times to be able to switch to the dist channel.

I had to get it replaced with a sturdier switch (not another plastic push button) and it's been fine ever since.

Re: Problem

It still doesn't work so any help would be appreciated. Should i try to take the amp apar and clean the switches?
