  • Which single-coil would be close to a tapped QP?

I'm really loving the sound of my JB when used with the Quarter Pound tapped. So much so, that I'm thinking of assembling a dedicated axe for this combo. Probably a Cyclone. I'm wondering which SD SC would match closest to the QP when tapped? I'm thinking either an SSL-2 or an APS-2.

    Apreciate any thoughts. Thanks all.

    Artie,
I must be the resident SSL-3 evangelist!

in any case, it's probably closest to the QP, in resistance, if not output.

as a matter of fact, I have a tapped version I plan to use as soon as I get a push-pull pot.

BTW, which positions are we talking about?

      oops,
OK, I think I read that wrong the first time.

I'm guessing that the QP tapped must be around 9K or so. .. ???

I've been an advocate of a production model in the 9K-10K range. The only current one I can think of is the TwangBanger, which is an A2 magnet @ about 9K.

Heh - Yup. I was just about to say, I meant witht the QP "tapped". It has that great "jangly" tone thats not there when its full on. But isn't the Twangbanger a "bridge pup?

I was going to use it in a Jb-bridge/sc-neck configuration, like this:

Thats why I was thinking the SSL-2/APS-2.

there's nothing that really says the TB couldn't be used in the neck (as long as it fits), but I agree with you - the AP2 is a great neck pickup. I have two, and a spare in the wings.
same is likely true of the SSL-2, which I have in another guitar.

probably as good as you can get, without going to a Custom Shop model.

And you're reinforcing what I suspected . . . I'd probably be equally happy with either one.
