No comparison, Duncan is superior in quality and Tone.

I have dimarzio PAF7s. The neck is bright, bassy, and modern. The bridge is very well ballanced in terms of EQ and is inbetween modern and vintage.

I can tell you how it compares to the 59 neck.

It has a warmer tone, more touch sentitivity and a little higher output. The tone response it is more even, having softer bass, sponier treble and a bit more middle. It produces and warmer distortion tone.

It has great tone both clean and dirty... (like the 59 )

I have some clips if you are interested.

Isn't the PAF classic just their PAF with a cover? I have a set of DiMarzio PAF's and they are OK...but the Duncan 59 BY FAR kicks their ass! I bought them for $25 for the pair, andthey are worth that but like I said...IMO the duncan stuff is much better. What kind of guitar are they going in and what kind of sound are you looking for?

I am just putting them in an Epi les paul classic cheapo. I have a JB in my main guitar and a pair of a2 pros in my second guitar just wanted something different.

                Re: Dimarzio PAF classic

I actually have one in my crappy Epi LP. It does it's job and I use it for alternative tunings or as a backup backup guitar. The pickup is a solid humbucker. Better than anything you can get stock (except on high end instruments). I'd take it over any modern day Gibson hb (to put things into perspective).

One thing about Dimarzios are that they tend to be brighter than Duncans. Duncans tend to be just very warm. Neither one is really better than the other, just different IMHO.

I also have a set of Virtual PAFs in my Dean Chafin and they're one of my favorite pickups. They reach the common ground between les paul and strat territory. The neck and bridge alone are like humbuckers, but with a strat-like clarity and with both of the pups engage, I get the best clean tone I've heard out of a set of humbuckers.

Would they be brighter than a JB?

PAF classic is Air classic with cover. I could post a clip but now my luthier is installing them in my Washburn 335 copy.

If I were you I would go with the 59's...they are great pickups and would be different from the JB and the AIIPro...

I liked them alot when I had them ('59's) I was just wanting something warm and classic sounding. I had never tried the dimarzios and was just curious. I want as PAF as possible. I know no two PAF's are the same.

In my opinion 59's are less brighter than Paf classics. The Paf classic it is a kind of alnicoII humbucker with all the charateristics anlicoII humbucker have. If you want to try something different of a 59 or a JB i can tell you this pickup will please you. I have both (59 and Jb) and the DM Paf classics are a different kind of pickup in tone.

If you want the warmest, most PAF type you can get I say Antiquitys...if thats too much money, then go with Seth Lovers or 59's all 3 are killer PAF type pups, and all 3 are very smooth and warm
