.....i am using it in the bridge of my floyd rose equipped strat and sometimes i don't like a certain "glassy" caracter it gives to my distorted sound. I was thinking of installing the emg85 but i already use that in my other strat and i wouldn't like to have the same pickup installed on my two guitars. Keeping in mind i have already tried the CC and the C5 and didn't like the lack of bass and the lack of mids respectively is there any other duncan i should try with approximately the same output as the JB before i go for the emg85?

Yes...the Duncan Custom.

The JB is not a bright, glassy, pickup, although the wood in your guitar does have something to do with that, as well. Is your Strat made of alder? Alder + JB = very warm, dark tone, in my experience. Have you tried simply re-EQ'ing your amp? I prefer the Demon to the JB, but it's not even close, in terms of output.

I agree that the JB is not a bright, glassy pickup...but something in the midrange character of the JB can produce a tone that sounds "hard" and hurts my ears. Whatever that "peak" or "resonance" or whatever that "something" is, it sounds "bright" to many people and that's the word those people usually use to describe that quality.

But you are right. There are a few humbuckers that actually have more highs and a "brighter" tone than the JB.

IMHO, the JB works best in Les Paul style guitars, I recommened the Duncan Distortion bridge pup for your axe.

I had the same issue with the JB, a Custom solved the 'glassy disortion' thing. Very balanced, chunky and nasty!
The JB has a better lead sound and cleans, but for everything else the Custom rocks.

Custom.

BTW, perhaps I'm strange, but I didn't like the JB in my Paul. It's distortion tones seemed like "80's in a box" to my ears. :burnout:

Re: I'm getting bored of the JB......

It certainly can sound bright and glassy in certain guitars. Definitely was in my Jackson SL1....got yanked right out of that guitar. But yet it sounded fine in my Kramer.
