  • Mini Humbuckers : Antiquity mini experience ?

    For you tone freaks !

I think about swapping the P90s from my Mc Soap for mini humbuckers.

I have experience SM1 (vintage mini) & SM2 (custom mini), the SM1 is too clean for me and SM2 is slightly too harsh so I think about using the ants.
I had a beloved '72 LP Deluxe loaded with minis and it sounded huge ! Dumb me , I sold this wonderful axe !
It was the perfect mix between P90s for crunch tone and buzz free sound of a humbucker for high gain solo !

I think the antiquities would be similar to this beloved tone from the past !
I talk about Antiquity II mini humbuckers , not the Firebird ones.

    Has anybody experienced those ?

Do you know if they come with mounting rings ?

Many question in one thread but any help is welcome

    Thx

Well if hadn't sold that Deluxe, you never could have started the French PRS Museum I see listed in your signature.

Sorry to chime in without any answers, but I too am very interested in what we used to call 3/4 humbuckers.

I also have a related question. I was reading the Warren Haynes interview on the SD site. He mentioned having Alnico II Pro Mini-Humbucker in his Firebirds.
I've never seen them listed on the site and I'm very interested in such a pickup. Anyone know about these babies?

That might be an option for you as well Captain.

I don't mean to offend, I just have a knack for it.

      Duncans used; Lil '59, Ducky & Hotrail in my Mahogany Hardtail Strat;
Brobucker and Cool Rail are on hold for future projects.

There are basically two kinds of mini's: The firebird type with blade magnets and the LP Deluxe type constructed like a std humbacker only smaller. I would describe the general tone of the FB's as bright/rock and roll with great bluesy sounding neck tones. The Deluxe mini's tend to be a little more polite and smoothe (kind of like a small HB, hmmm). I love the ant FB pickups in my LP. The mini's in my Shearton (Gibson) sound wonderful too. I don't think SD makes a Deluxe HB execpt on special order.
