  • Wiring experts gather round

I'm going to type simpley and break this down for my sake if anything so here goes...

I have a Fender Jazzmaster which is currently stock.
I want to replace the bridge pickup with Seymour Duncan JB.
I intend to rip out the neck rhythm tone circuit as I never use it and I'm always catching on it.
Witht the three way selector I want my neck pickup selected in the forward position and my bridge selected in the backward position.
In the middle position I want the coil nearest the middle of the JB couple with the neck pickup for a humbucking effect.

Is this possible with that switch or do I need a switch with more poles and throws etc. ?

Would anyone want to attempt to draw a diagram or explain to me exactly what I'd need to do?

    Many thanks

This diagram willl provide the sounds you want. I can provide specific step-by-step instructions for converting a Jazzmaster to this setup if needed.

This setup requires a 4PDT (12 terminal) ON-ON-ON switch. It is available from AllParts or DiMarzio.

You would not have to "rip out" the rhythm circuit, it could be disconnected but left 95% intact by desoldering a few wires. The JB may sound a bit brighter if you leave the stock 1Meg pots rather than using 500K.

You may need to flip the humbucker magnet or reverse the starts and finishes on the humbucker to achieve in-phase & hum-cancelling in the middle position - this depends on the neck pickup.

Would you be getting a custom pickguard cut for a JazzMaster neck and HB bridge?
