  • bridge pickup help!!!!!!!jb or dimarzio sd?

hey guys i'm new here. i cant decide on which pickup to buy for my guitar ,the Jb or dimarzio super distortion .i'm looking for a fat heavy tone with cutting leads and rhythem which are great for mainly hardcore/post hardcore music and heavy punk

    -PRS TREMONTI SE-
    TYPE: Single-cutaway, arched-top solidbody electric
    BODY: Indonesian mahogany
    NECK: One-piece mahogany, glued-in
    SCALE LENGTH: 635mm (25-inch)
ELECTRICS: Two open-coiled alnico humbuckers, three-way toggle pickup selector switch, volume and tone for each pickup
    WEIGHT (kg/Ib): 3.75/8.25

1)I previously changed the bridge pickup to the custom, custom and it was a faggot pickup, it needed more output...
2)Does anyone know if the guitar wood(mahogany) has more treble or midds
3)i'm afraid that my wood does not give tight bass

You should go with the JB cause your guitar is mahogany and the DiMarzio SD which has more bass then a JB might sound a little muddy in that guitar but the JB should sound killer!!!!

CC is a faggot pickup you say? Maybe you just have a hormonal imbalance presented by your neck pickup. By the way the Super Distortion is a under wound CC with a different magnet.
      Me and Neal's stage rig.

These are two fairly different pickups IMO.

Even though it's DC Resistance on the Super Distortion is slightly less than the Custom Custom, it has a ceramic mag that would most likely make it a good bit hotter than the Custom Custom which has an A2 magnet.

And if you're worried about tight bass and you have to choose between the JB and Super Distortion, I'd go with the JB. The Super Distortion is a great pickup that is big and meaty sounding but it's not the tightest.

If you think the CC sounded weak, I think you might as well just step up to the Duncan Distortion. It has tight bass, sharp highs, and a very aggressiv evoicing in the midrange.

It's tighter than the Super Distortion for sure.
          Ain't nothin' but a G thang, baby.

okay thks for the advice, does jb sound trebly and flat on mahagony wood? the cc which is high in midds, sounds a little trebly on my guitar. i expected it to be more to the bassy side. Is the quality of wood the problem?

Mahogany it is a warm/middy tone wood. I am asuming your guitar has a rosewood fingerboard which also makes the guitar to have a warmer tone (ebony and maple are on the bright side). Also your guitar has a wraparound bridge (if I'm not mistaken ) which also helps to give the guitar a smoother tone. I know this Tremonty models aren't the top of the class but anyway I don't think there is any poblem with the wood.

Said this I am quite surprised that CC had a too trebly tone for you. Ussually CC it is described as a warm pickup with soft treble and bass and lots of mids. If CC it is trebly for you then the JB it is going to be like fireworks. Is there any possiblity you had made a mistake installing the pickup? May be it is in single coil mode or in parallel instead in the standard series configuration.

CC too icepicky? Nothing like an Invader in a mahogany guitar!!

Just kidding, don't do that. As all have said, try the JB.. but chances are, if the CC was too bright, the JB will be even brighter.

On the other hand, the Dimarzio SD has got looser bass than the JB... and in mahogany, the JB is, IMO, ideal.
