  • Neck pickup to go with hotrails

Hello. I have a standard MIM tele with a hotrails in the bridge. This weekend, i will be getting 500k pots, with a push/pull for series/parallel in the bridge hotrails. Right now, there is a huge output difference in the bridge/neck, so it doesnt sound good in the middle position, and there is a noticeable volume drop when i switch. I will be using the neck for mainly rhythm, and i would like a clean, smoother sound. Im pretty satisfied with the sound of the current neck pickup, but the output isnt there, and i would like to be able to have a nice sound when the switch is in the mid position. The neck pickup slot is routed for humbucker, and i could cut the pickguard to accomodate strat single coil, p90, humbucker, whatever, i am open to suggestions. Thanks

Re: Neck pickup to go with hotrails

I'd go with a Cool Rails dude. I've got a Hot Rails in the bridge of my strat with a Cool Rails at the neck and the tone you described (clean, smooth) is exactly what I get out of my neck position. As long as you aren't opposed to a fatter humbucker sound, the Cool Rails matches well output wise with the Hot Rails.
