I tried out one of the Fender Tele Baritone guitars, trying to get the right tone out of the bridge pickup. The humbucker Fender put in that position lacks the crispness and punch I am looking for. The neck and middle pickups are unremarkable. Has anyone tried a single coil pickup in the bridge position - especially one of the single coils in a humbucker size? Or how about another humbucker that will sound like a single coil when split? Any suggestions for the neck and middle positions? This guitar seems like a good platform for some great sounds, but the stock pickups fall short. I play country/western swing, blues, and some R + B, so I am looking for bright clean tones with some authority and punch, as well as smooth tones for a more mellow sound when called for.
