Guys, recently nabbed this chap from 'bay
It's a sapele partsacaster Washburn N4. It was a bit of a gamble as I'm sure some of it needs work, and some of the parts aren't up to scratch, but might be a nice project/beater in the next while. One of the definite upgrades I'm looking at are the pickups though. I'm ordering a Bill & Becky L500XL for the bridge, and though Nuno usually pairs it up with a '59, I've also got a Charvel Pro Mod with that in the neck so thought I'd try something different. Plus, I actually find the '59 a bit woolly.
So any advice on a neck pickup appreciated. I like a singing neck tone in general, thick yet defined, think John Sykes/Whitesnake 'Is this love' or very early Extreme like the solo bit from Nuno on the first album. Was thinking a Pearly Gates maybe? I found a clip with a PG neck through an N2 but the guy had too much distortion for my taste and sounded very trebly.
