  • Pup problem

I asked this a while back and did what I was told.

My guitar will sound fine for a while then sound like the volume is turned down even when it is not. Wiggling wires does not bring it back. It may work next time I play for 15 minutes it may never sound right. Everything is wired correctly. No hot wires are touching a ground. I have used 4 different pots and the solder joints are new.

HELP PLEASE! I am losing it!

    thanks

    Re: Pup problem

I had a Epi Les Paul and it had the same problem. It's most likely in the pickup.I put a Semour Duncan '59 in and it was fixed. It has somthing to do with the magnet and polepiece's or the wire's in the Pup itself is my guess?

My other guitar works fine with the same cable. I also hooked it up to a multimeter and it read about 16 K like it should.

I am stumped. I called duncan the last time this happend and they said it may be a hot and groubd touching but it is not I only have 1 pup and i pot it was easy to check.

These are my last idea's?? Did you check the wires that are solderd to the coils to see if there not loose?,The base plate is tight? Check the pole pieces to see if there not loose? It's most likely the wires in the pickup but I'm not sure. You might want to try another pickup in the that slot.Thats the only other idea I got?? I don't know what the problem would be if that doesn't work.

            Good Luck.

I will try something like that. I may put it in another guitar that I know works since I do not have any spare pups laying around that are worth a crap. Thanks so much for your input

I was taking it out and the tape that was taping the red and white wires to each other and the outide of the lead came of. I noticed a little wire was showing. So that may have been the problem, or i did it when I pulled the tape off. It resoldered it and it worked for 40 minutes before I turned off my amp. I will find out tomorrow if it works fine.
