  • DD neck with an A5 Magnet?

    Anyone tried this?
This could be a very interesting alnico powered neck pickup with good cleans and a fat distortion tone...
Would it come close to a hotter '59n?
Would it match well with a C5 in a LP?

Well, a Distortion is a JB with a different magnet...a DD neck with an A5 would be a JB Neck! Sounds cool try it!
If you just read a post by The Guy Who Invented Fire please understand that opinions change, mind sets change and as players our ears mature...not to mention our needs grow and change. With that in mind, today I may or may not agree with the post you just read!

Yeah that's what I was thinking too, the DDn has 12k resistance and the output will be lowered as well going from a Ceramic to an A5 magnet.
= this the JB neck model? I really want to try thgis out but I'd like to hear some more opinions and maybe soundclips?

I think the A5 Distortion sounds like a JB. Or that a JB ceramic sounds like a distortion. I'm not sure where these ideas came from.

A5 Distortion sounds bassier than a JB. Downright dark, but still plenty clear and balanced. The only reason the DD is so bright is because it is ceramic, a large ceramic at that.

Ceramic JBs have more sparkle, with more aggressive mids. (more mids all around actually- it's not harsh.)
