  • Ibanez RG 520QS pickups

Hi there, im new here but ive been reading the threads here for the last couple of days. wow i learned a lot! I have an Ibanez RG 520QS -- mahogany body, edge tremolo, rosewood fingerboard, HH pickup config. I see people here asking what pickups they want for their RG but most if not all of them have basswood bodies so i started a new thread..

i wanted to replace the stock pkups and i wanted a pickup combo that screams METAL!! i play mostly thrash metal and im tuned to D and im willing to sacrifice versatility in this guitar. i wanna explore other options other than the jazz/JB combo which sounds killer on my other guitar. i play riffs on the bridge, and ALWAYS plays on the neck. what would you guys here recommend?

i emailed dimarzio's tech support (i cant believe they sent a reply), they said i should go with a evo neck/super 2 set. what do you think? we dont have super 2's here in the philippines so im thinking of: evo neck/dimebucker??

or maybe full shred/dime? any other suggestions? thanks!

PS: f-spaced pickups are a rarity here, what would happen if a placed a regular bridge pickup for my RG?

What differences would you like from your guitar with the JB/Jazz combo? The Dime/Full Shred should work killer for what you want. Also look at the Duncan Distortion in both bridge and neck and maybe the Invader. My inclination would say a DD set... As far as Dimarzios go my favorites are the Super 3 and Super Distortion. The Super 2 sounds pretty close to the Super Distortion but it has less bass and more highs and sounds slightly less compressed. I didnt try an Evo in the neck but I did in the bridge and it wasnt bad it just didnt really light my fire. Had some odd overtones that I had a hard time getting used to. As far as F-Spaced goes I cant hear much of a difference. I think its mostly cosmetic so your pole pieces line up but thats just me.

    BTW Welcome to the forum...

there's nothing wrong with the jazz/JB set that i have, i just wanted to try new things. the DD set looks great, but here they only sell DD in the bridge. what would happen if i place a bridge DD in the neck? will it drown the bridge pickup?

Bummer you cant get a DD neck in the phillipines... A Bridge one in the neck would be too much i would think... Maybe pair one with an Evo neck?
