    Re: Custom Shop Possibility...

BTW, I ended up using a Duncan Custom in my Seven string (RG1077XL, sold last year) and it was killer.

    Just an Idea

Glad to be able to help - especially if it works out! If it doesn't, I have no idea who Aceman is...someone must have hacked into my user account! Good luck!

Well it seriously looks like the custom shop won't be able to make a 7-string version of the Dimebucker, but Aceman brings up some fun ideas that I might just have to try, I can get by without the 7-string for a while if I mess it up too bad.

Those ideas may work... Probably require a major amount of surgery to the guitar... Might as well get the EMG's at that point... But also you would be using a 6 string pickup on a 7 string guitar... If the custom shop can make a 7 string version of it there really wouldnt be a need to do anything drastic..

    Just a thought here -

Mr Van Halen slanted his pup to line up the poles/slugs in the Franken strat (I think). Can you slant the Dime to cover bass strings with one coil and treble with the other? Might even slant backwards to put more "crunch" on the bass side!

Or - If you are feeling a bit more adventurous: Separate the coils and slide them slightly apart, like a P bass pick up. You wouldn't have to move them far. You would have to be very carefull about separating and re connecting the coils.

Or - I'm just completely out of my mind, which is also possible...You might trash a pup, guitar or both, or it my rock your ass off! All you have to lose is $99 and some time.....

I thought the same forever, because of Dino Casares's description (an 85/81 hybrid). Turns out its a whole lot more 85 than 81.

Yeah, we've discussed that before, and decided against it. I didn't really mean it as a viable option.

FYI, the 707 has Alnico poles, like the 85

Well, there's your answer... mount a Dime at the 12th fret

The only 7 string blade I know of is the EMG 81-7.

For kicks and grins I measured the string spacing on my Jackson DR7. Above the polepieces on the bridge pickup its 60.5mm (2.38in) from string center to center...

Well, the width at the 12th fret is 56mm, I can't find the string width, but I would guess it would be too wide for the Diembucker...
It's a hard tail by the way.

    Re: Custom Shop Possibility...

The blades on the Dime are 2 1/4 inches long, but I'm not sure if this will help you or not because I don't know what the string spacing is on your guitar (a 7 string) or if you have a trem also. The Dime blades are a lot longer than the string spacing on my 6 string with a trem. A Dime does sound cool to try if you can find a way to do it. Good luck!

Exactly what I was thinking... Oh well... maybe I'll shoot 'em another e-mail and see if the confusion can be cleared up a little bit, but until then, if anybody has any ideas on how i can get a 7-string Rails pick-up I would greatly appreciate your help.
