  • Cabronita wiring help

    Howdy.

Working on a Cabronita build. It's drilled for 2 pots. Previous owner had a tone & volume with a 3 way toggle.

I'm thinking of doing the same thing or maybe 2 volumes? What are the advantages to either? What caps do people use?

Where are some wiring diagrams for either setup? I am using Gretsch Filtertrons.

If your running two volumes you shouldn't need a cap. But if you want a tone, I'd go with .022. That's what most Gibsons use.

Just take this and remove the tone from the circuit.
You will never understand How it feels to live your life With no meaning or control And with nowhere left to go You are amazed that they exist And they burn so bright
Whilst you can only wonder why

Well, I'd think the biggest drawback would be getting rid of a tone control, which I would need, although I know it isn't essential for everyone. Or, are you talking about keeping a tone control? I can only speak from my experience, but I know you can get more interesting variations of tone with 2 volumes, but it always seemed like any of those variations might take 2 moves to get to the right sound. I know LP players love this, but I could never get used to it.

I like the idea of two volumes. I will often set the neck volume lower on my les pauls to get a better middle position balance, or to get a clean tone on a slightly dirty channel.

Lots of people seem to run cabronitas with no tone control. I'd be interested in hearing the pros/cons of tone or no tone control.

And then yea, how to wire it for either setup.

Like this diagram? Or this one, with a tone control?

I would think that with Filtertrons you'd want to have some ability to reduce the treble occasionally. I like the idea of having two volume controls rather than one master control, but I don't think I could do without a master tone control (I use my tone controls a lot).

After looking I don't see what I need

I decided on 1 volume and 1 tone with a 3 way toggle

The trons are 2 conductor. Can't find a diagram for that?

Pickups with 2 conductors are wired the same as 4 conductors, you just ignore the red and white wires that are connected together in diagrams.

                        Thanks!

Last dumb question---should I be grounding this to the bridge? Or does it matter?

If you want your guitar to be buzzy/noisy without any way of stopping it, feel free to leave the bridge ground off.

Thats ok, I never trouble myself with universal approval. The info is good as an upside.
