What should i expect if i install a pickup without the tone control? How the lack of tone pot affects the sound, output and EQ of the pickup?

      BETTER

I greatly enjoy when pick-up doesn't have a tone control, I've never had a tone control on the bridge pups on my strats, and when I re-did my most recent strat, I took the tone knobs out all together. If you've got good pick-ups then I say the tone knob just gets in the way.

I like a tone knob for the neck (and middle on a Strat) but NEVER for the bridge. If you want the hottest possible signal from the pickup, get that tone knob outta there!

I never used to use a tone control but My buddies and I did a test to see what the difference is and the tone knob hooked up all the way up added mids and girth while taming the highs slightly. The cap you matters slighlty. I now use tone controls on my Les Pauls.

Eddie Van Halen did this and it seemed to give the notes more attack and an overall better sound. Some people say it makes the tone too harsh, but I prefer it. On my old squier strat the bridge pickup had no tone control and it really suited it. My Fender AM series strat has one, and I never roll the tone off on the bridge.

My Dean Z has an Invader in the bridge and I bypassed the tone control on it. It's breathtaking. More output, more clarity. It doesn't muddy up when I back off the volume.

Want the best of both worlds? Get a no-load tone pot. When you've turned up the tone control to full its the equivalent of not having one at all.
