Full Shred vs Duncan Custom

Re: Full Shred vs Duncan Custom

The Custom has a ceramic magnet and the Full Shred has an A5. Many people think that the Full Shred is only a Custom 5 with double rows of hex screws, which is debatable because the Customs have 14.1k and the Full Shred is advertised at 14.6k. Even if the FS isn't a C5, the best way to describe it is as a tighter and brighter C5. It's articulate and focused with a lot of harmonic content. It's more advertised for the metal crowd, especially hair metal. It does work well for modern metal styles too.

Meanwhile the Custom is the original PAF on steroids. It sounds like a hot, but slightly scooped PAF. It has tight bass, clear treble, and an upper midrange push. Not a spike like the JB has, this is a less polarizing spike. Definitely a rock pickup, but works for a lot of genres.

The Custom is one of my favorite pickups for a Les Paul. It has a very P90 midrange growl to it. Love that thing.

The Full Shred is a great all around pickup. To me, it sound like a cross between the C5 and JB. It doesn’t seem to favor one body wood over another. Actually, it sounds an awful lot like a PATB-1b. Just a great sounding higher output pickup It’s very articulate. I actually need to get another one soon. Kinda miss having that tonal option.
