  • installing a Hot Stack pickup for Jazz bass: what am I looking at?!

Hi, forum! New user here and I'm looking for some clarification before I do something stupid...

I just received a STK-J2 pickup for my Fender Jazz Bass Special. I've wired up guitar pickups before but this is my first bass pickup... I was surprised to look at the underside of the pickup and discover that its lead wire is being "retained" by a little bit of a wire "loop"; each side soldered to the copper undercarriage of the pickup:

see how the wire is held underneath the pickup at its midpoint? As a result of that, the lead wire is on the wrong side of the pickup!

I'm fairly certain that that retaining thread of wire serves no functional purpose and that I'm supposed to either snip it off or, at least, simply pull the lead wire out from under it so I can then feed it into the control cavity.

But I figured I'd rather ask a dumb question before acting rashly!
Working...
