  • Jazz with brass baseplate

Looking to try this but... would like to hear if anyone has tried this, and how you would describe the difference.

Also, where to find brass baseplates that fit SD humbuckers?

I believe brass to be a tone rich tonemetal. I just scored whatever I could find then did some mild dremeling to make everything fit.

Brass rolls off the top end. Its one of the reasons why the Tele's bridge tone is less brittle than a strat of the same output level.

Nickel steel baseplates have sharp treble, less midrange, and percussive bass. Brass baseplates have round treble, thick midrange, and round bass. I suspect the reason why Dimarzio uses hex head screws on the majority of their pickups is to sharpen the treble while attenuating the midrange slightly. I would use short fillister screws so it's not too bass-heavy.
