  • Active single coils

Hi, I remember hearing somewhere that active single coil pickups are actually active single-coil sized humbuckers. Is this true of say, the EMG SAV, or the Hot Strat Livewire.

The reason I ask is because I saw the sustainiac post the other day, and I'm thinking of trying one out in one of the following pickup configurations:

    1) EMG 81 bridge, Sustainiac/EMG SAV on a common baseplate at the neck.
    2) Seymour Duncan LiveWire Metal at the bridge, Sustainiac/Strat hot livewire on a common baseplate at the neck.

The sustainiac website suggests that you can only really put a pickup in at the neck with the sustainiac stealth if it's a humbucker:

The website also suggests that the +ve and -ve wires going to the sustainiac have to be flipped over if used with EMGs - is this the case also with the liverwires? (http://www.sustainiac.com/stealth.htm#activepu)

The Live Wires for Strat are stacked HBs, can't help you with the EMGs.

I have no idea about the power requirements of the sustianiac.
