My japanese re-issue jazzmaster is a great guitar, the only weak part of it is the pickups.

They don't sound bad, they just lack output.

My problem is that I can't decide whether to go for vintage, hot or quarter-pound SD replacements?

I'm not aiming to sound like anyone really, I just want the pickups to sound a bit thicker, louder & to do the instrument justice. I do like the just-broken-up p90 sound that neil young gets & the sounds of j mascis, sonic youth, jim o'rourke etc..

Anyone got any tips or advice? (I'm leaning towards the hot or quarter-pounders...)
