Anyone try a A5 or A2 in a Distortion?

Re: Anyone try a A5 or A2 in a Distortion?

I put an A5 magnet in my DD awhile ago. To my ears, it sounded less biting and was more tame. I tried it as an attempt to balance it out with the low output single coils I had on the guitar.

However, I ended up putting it back. I think the DD is such a great pickup coz if its awesome grind... which I think is largely due to that big ceramic maget.

I would think useing a A5 in a DD would make it sound more like a JB ?

The Distortion sounds awesome with the Ceramic magnet from a Duncan Custom...

Agree totally. I was a fan of the DD-5 for a while, until I decided it robbed the pickup of what I got it for - huge sounding ceramic grind. Put the oversize ceramic mag back in and I was smiling for weeks :D

It IS very JB-like with an A5 imho.

The Custom magnet is half the size and gives the pickup a sound midway between the JB and the Distortion...
